Pharmacogenetic Testing (PGX Testing)

Pharmacogenetics is the study of how a person’s genes affect the body’s response to medications. PGX testing looks for changes or variants in these genes that may determine whether a medication could be an effective treatment for your patient, or whether any side effects could occur to a specific medication.

Pharmacognetic Testing can identify a person’s risk of serious disease and conditions at their earliest and most treatable stage. The Pharmacogenetic DNA test will measure over 70 specific biomarkers to evaluate individual risk for many conditions and diseases.

What Pharmacogenetics Testing Does

The purpose of Pharmacogenetics Testing is to find out if a medication is right for your patient. A simple swab sample taken from your patient’s cheek can help determine:

  • Whether a medication may be effective for your patient
  • What the best dose of medication is for your patient
  • Whether your patient could have serious side effects from a medication

The Benefits of Pharmacogenetic Testing

  • Improved patient outcomes when initiating drug regimens
  • Reduced risk of harmful drug-to-drug interactions
  • Reduced risk of Adverse Drug Reactions

Drug response may be improved through adjustment of drug selection and dosing based on information from a Pharmacogenetic testing regarding effectiveness and risk. Results provide accurate prescribing through genetics.
